Today itslearning announces the launch of itslearning ‘Communities’ for student and professional learning communities. Designed for the most interactive and dynamic of group work, a community is a designated space equipped with tools and functions to support high level communication and collaboration.
Teachers and learners can all use community spaces to share best practices, develop ideas and produce collaborative work based on a specific theme/subject.
'Communities' provides the ideal blend of tools to support professional learning communities. These tools can be integrated directly into a teacher’s actual courses so that they can both share and re-use best practices as discussed between colleagues in the same school, district or across the state. Limiting the need for time consuming physical meetings, itslearning’s collaboration tools within the context of a group of educators allow pedagogical discussions to evolve and become tried and tested and ultimately lead to improvement. As PLC users begin to discover the potential of the technologies through their use of the embedded blogs, AV conferences etc., they begin to transform those technologies into their own professional practice.
"itslearning provides the K–12 educational community the collaborative tools that enable valuable Professional Learning Communities (PLC) fostered by Rick Dufour for both teachers and students. When technologies, such as itslearning, enables practices, such as PLC, valued by school leaders and teachers – educational transformations can actually occur to ultimately enable engaging and results–oriented learning environments." Ann Ware, Educational Leader
itslearning ‘Communities’ encourages students to be proactive about their own education and development by allowing them to create their own community spaces by inviting classmates to join in collaboration tied to any class or course of study. Community spaces are perfect for study groups as groups of learners can create their own space, choose roles and invite others to participate. They can also communicate with other project members through the internal message system, and create project discussions.
“For many years, itslearning has delivered strong results for our 2.5 million customers around the world” said Kevin Pawsey, CEO of itslearning, US. “It is exciting and gratifying to now expand our impact with Communities. Research has shown that professional learning communities are a powerful staff development approach and we know they are a potent strategy for school change and improvement and we are pleased to provide this capability as part of the itslearning platform.”
