itslearning Circles leverages the collective knowledge of educators to bring innovative best-practices to classrooms across the U.S.
Plymouth, MA- June 24, 2013- itslearning (www.itslearning.net), the digital learning platform of choice for teachers, today announced itslearning Circles, a cloud-based community of practice for educators interested in blended learning environments. Developed in partnership with Forsyth County Schools, itslearning Circles provides K-12 educators across the U.S. with a collaborative space to share best practices using itslearning to enhance the teaching and learning environment.
The itslearning platform provides educators with a variety of solutions to support professional development, community involvement, curriculum management, course management, and reporting and analytics. itslearning Circles builds on this offering by providing members with collaborative professional development tools. Members will be able to access self-paced and video–rich interactive courses, or "Circles," focused on supporting pedagogical and practical application of the platform by teachers, students, parents and school administrators. These Circles will offer many ways for teachers to collaborate by sharing tips and ideas including discussion forums, surveys and polls. Members will also be able to share resources with the community at large.
"The economic challenges facing school districts combined with a growing number of Internet-based collaboration tools have resulted in a shift from traditional face-to-face professional development to new collaborative, online learning opportunities,” said Bailey Mitchell, Forsyth County Schools CTO. “We are seeing leaders, teachers and students design their own “Personal Learning Environments” that utilize mutual resources of the learning community to share instructional strategies and experiences. Communities of practice are the logical transition from a one-size-fits-all design for professional development to a unique learner plan for each teacher, connecting peers, tools, and resources," Mr. Mitchell added.
“We believe that itslearning will become the ‘go-to’ personal learning platform for educators. It is so important that we model courses as a collaborative and personalized learning environment and not merely a content repository. As is the case with our K-12 students, professional learning should be an evolving conversation accessible on demand,” said Lisa Dubernard, U.S. Director of Education Strategy for itslearning. “Some say the best learning platform is one that teachers will use. We want to extend that to being the one that they will use well," Ms. Dubernard added.
